Platform owners are earning an increasing amount of money as consumers are spending more time on their mobile devices. US mobile ad spending is rising due to Facebook’s Mobile Newsfeed Ads and Twitter’s Promoted Products. eMarketer reports that overall U.S. mobile advertising (search/messaging-based ads and display) will grow 180% this year. In addition, US mobile ad spending is predicted to top $7.19 billion in 2013 and almost $21 billion by 2016.

This optimism is partly fueled by Facebook’s third quarter performance. eMarketer estimates Facebook’s US mobile ad revenue is around $339 million this year. Similarly, Google also performed well this quarter. According to eMarketer estimates, Google will control over half of the US mobile advertising market by the end of 2012.
